Lacrime di S. Lorenzo 2010: promettono scintille
Secondo le valutazioni dell'International Meteor Organization, quest'anno la terra attraverserà il culmine dei residui della cometa Swiff-Tuttle tra le ore 23,30 del 12 Agosto e le 02,00 del 13 Agosto. Questo farà si che il massimo dello sciame meteorico delle Perseidi, noto come "Lacrime di San Lorenzo", cada in un'ora ottima per l'osservazione e dovrebbe essere particolarmente visibile e consistente.___Oltre all'ora buona per l'osservazione, dopo la mezzanotte si ha anche l'incremento dovuto alla sommatoria della velocità di rivoluzione, il tutto cade poi con luna nuova di 2 giorni e quindi il cielo sara' ottimamente buio.__Stando ai presupposti dovrebbe essere una serata da fuochi artificiali!
14 febbraio - Opportunità di osservare Plutone che occulta una stella di magnitudine 11
Plutone occulterà la stella di magnitudine 11 denominata 2UCAC 24920649 il prossimo 14 febbraio 2010 intorno alle 4h 50min UTC. Il fenomeno sarà visibile da molte regioni dell’Europa centrale nell’imminenza dell’alba. Plutone non sarà molto alto sull’orizzonte, ma questo sarà comunque il più favorevole evento visibile dall’Europa per la corrente decade e oltre.L’occultazione permetterà non solo di stabilire molto precisamente l’errore residuo della posizione di Plutone rispetto alle effemeridi DE413 (o DE421), ma anche una più precisa determinazione dei parametri della sottile atmosfera del pianeta. In ogni caso, è un’occultazione per la quale anche con telescopi piccoli (forse anche un 15 cm) equipaggiati con una videocamera sensibile (ma forse basterà anche una webcam!) si potrà rilevare l’esistenza dell’atmosfera. La Sezione Occultazioni della UAI, in coordinamento con la sezione europea dell’International Occultation Timing Association (IOTA.ES) aderisce alla campagna di osservazione fornendo assistenza sia prima dell’evento che dopo, fornendo spiegazioni su come osservare e su cosa fare per analizzare le osservazioni.La stella è identificata dal numero 24920649 nel catalogo UCAC 2. La magnitudine riportata dal catalogo UCAC è 10.39 nella banda da 579 a 642 nm. La posizione più recente della stella, misurata dal gruppo di Rio è: RA(J2000): 18h 19m 14.3847sec - DEC(J2000): -18d 16' 42.323'' [www.uai.it, sezione Occultazioni]
